Level 1 30 HOURS: Yin Yoga Foundations: Understanding a Practice of Surrender September 5th-7th

Introduction to Taoist Anatomical Analysis and Yin/Yang Yoga Sutras of Paul Grilley
Understanding and discriminating sensation: Tension vs Compression, Muscle vs Fascia, Physical vs Subtle Energy
Interactive hands-on study of anatomy
Introduction to skeletal landmarks and testing range of motion
A deep quiet practice of Yin Yoga and Chakra Awareness.

Yin Yoga is a very simple practice. We settle into a posture for 3-7 minutes and slowly relax our muscles to allow the deeper drier tissues–the connective tissues that wrap our muscles and make up our joint capsules–to be safely and therapeutically stretched, stimulated and strengthened.
The alignment rules of the postures are also simple, but more importantly they are functional and organic: We listen to our bodies and lead ourselves into the shape that follows the natural contours of our spine, pelvis and hips. However, bringing ourselves into this simplicity can be quite challenging. The practice of being still and quiet for minutes at a time can be trying enough, especially while dropping into a powerful stretch that moves across wide sheets of fascia and drops deep into the ligaments of the joints. And listening to our bodies to find the natural alignment of the pose requires a power of discrimination, and an understanding and familiarity with the ever-changing vibrations from crude (Nervous System) to subtle (Meridians) in the body.
In this training, we will analyze, observe and practice all of these elements of Yin Yoga in depth. We will examine ourselves on a deeply personal level with ancient meditation techniques that guide us into a steady awareness of the changing sensations in the postures. We will study with slides of real bones and by articulating the joints on a plastic skeleton. We will also engage in a hands-on study of eachother with anatomical range of motion (ROM) tests. The study culminates in a truer understanding of the the infinite variety of human bodies (from the bones to the Chakras), and the experience of truly settling into our unique asana.

Level 2 20 HOURS: Advanced Yin Yoga Training: Target Practice September 8th-9th

The Target Area of the posture is its Functional Objective. The shape of each individual’s posture is unique, thus the pose is infinitely variable; But the Target Areas are simple and finite . These deep tissue targets and each Yin posture’s aim are well covered in Level 1: Yin Yoga Foundations.

This training is for those who have been trained in the Yin Yoga Foundations with Joe.

Target Practice draws the Yin Yoga teacher into a deeper look into Anatomical Variations, sharpens her intuition of functional and safe alignment, and develops her skills to guide the surrendering student of Yin.

This training takes the Yin Yoga study to the next level starting with the opportunity to review the functional objectives and techniques of posture exploration.

Over and above review, Target Practice offers the Yin Yoga teacher a chance to sharpen her dialogue, focus her teaching eye and offer hands-on assists. Target Practice trainees can expect precise and detailed anatomical analyses of the Yin Yoga postures, and more importantly an experiential study of the Assisted Yin Yoga practice (a One-on-One treatment in which the Yin Therapist manually directs the passive client’s body to find the pose and hold them in their unique Functional Alignment while she minimizes her own muscular efforts).

This is a unique opportunity for the Continuing Education of the teachers and students of this sweet practice of surrender.
