Ayurveda is old medicine for a new age. This online course is both contemplative and pragmatic, and will leave trainees with a richer understanding of their holistic resources.
Trainees will explore the poetic language of one the world’s oldest wellness systems, contemplate constitutional differences in themselves and in their clients, and consider the balance of their relationships to time, food, family, work, and the life cycle.
My approach is interdisciplinary, respectful of biomedicine, non-dogmatic, and practical. As a self-employed husband and father, I keep the happy/anxious busy-ness of relationship always in mind as I discuss how Ayurveda can apply to contemporary life. This course isn’t about expensive retreats, fancy massages, or all-consuming self-improvement rituals that make you feel bad when you inevitably don’t keep them up. Ayurveda is about embodied mindfulness, wherever you are.
I’ve found that if we get past the finicky food lists and pigeon-holing self-assessment tests, we can explore the core questions of this ancient art form. How can we become more attuned to our material experiences of change? How can we become more articulate poets of our physical conditions? How can we tune into the song the inner body is singing?
Our 10-class schedule is spread out over many months, with several breaks. This will give plenty of opportunity to digest the readings, the quizzes and homework assignments, and to experiment with various practices at home, and with case studies.
