Genuine Peace: How Yoga & Meditation Really Work
People are drawn to the interior practices of mindfulness, largely because they find themselves vulnerable to overstimulation, exhaustion, and being overwhelmed. Meditation teaches us how to calm the mind and body, how to recognize when we are over-extended or burning out, and how to mitigate the tendency to worry and ruminate. Yoga & Meditation can also be tools that inspire to get involved in our communities.
Drawing on the insights of western psychology as well as his practice of Yoga and Buddhist meditation, Michael will offer reflections and practices for making friends with your mind.
Morning Asana 9:00am-12:00pm
We will slow down traditional sequences of vinyasa yoga to explore the intersection of alignment based practice with the opening of the subtle body. We will blend detailed physical alignment with practices to help you calm the mind and transform distractions and difficult emotions. Practice in a way that integrates physicality with meditative awareness.
Learn to move in new ways without being rigid about tradition.
Afternoon Meditation and Study 2:00pm-5:00pm
In the afternoons, you will learn to settle your mind, find space in your breathing, and stabilize your emotions. This will allow you to investigate your experience with more clarity and depth. We will study the psychology of meditation and you’ll learn to develop a daily practice.
Michael will synthesize techniques from Vipassana, Zen and yoga lineages while also describing the existential and psychological aspects of meditation.
This workshop is like being in a yoga workshop, a university classroom, and a monastery. All at once!
Eligible for 20HRS towards the Empowered Yoga 500HR Movement Medicine Training

A deposit is required to hold your spot. Deposits are not refundable. Cancelations up to 30 days prior to the event may be issued a credit with Empowered Yoga to be used towards a different program. Unfortunately we are unable to issue a credit or refund the deposit within 30 days of the event. Certificates of completion may be issued upon the successful completion of the requirements above.
