The human brain has evolved from a time where our ancestors had to be hyper-vigilant about the dangers they faced on a daily basis. Consequently we are hardwired for struggle, stress, negativity and FEAR. Stress manifests in the body in many ways, some positive and some negative, and quite often we store the resulting negative and repressed emotions as “issues in our tissues”
By understanding the anatomy and physiology of the central nervous system and how it effects the endocrine system we can learn how to re-program the brain and how we manage stress using tools like focus, breath, meditation, and movement. Because the brain is highly plastic we can ultimately change our brain by changing the way we take in the information that comes through our consciousness.
In this module we will discuss the Chakra system, discovering how we “embody emotions” in an attempt to extract the most poignant and applicable information so that we may better empower our students to take control of their health and happiness, using Yoga as therapy.
We will also look at how to create FLOW in our life by changing the way we experience the ordinary moments, turning the ordinary into extraordinary, improving our ability to manage stress, increasing focus, undoing the patterns in the body through intelligent movement, and ultimately transforming our lives.
Finally we will learn different approaches used to enhance mind-body consciousness and how to deepen the therapeutic experience and transformative power of Yoga by increasing awareness.
Students will gain familiarity with the pancamaya kosha model with specific emphasis on pranamaya and manamaya kosha and its application and relevance to yoga therapy
Students will gain familiarity with yoga perspectives on perception, behaviour, emotions and suffering.
Students will gain familiarity with the major psychological theories on emotions, embodied emotions, body armour, coping patterns, negativity bias and the evolution of the brain.
Students will gain knowledge of the 3 communication systems in the body: central nervous system, endocrine system and fascial system and how they are effected through stress.
Students will gain knowledge of the Prana Vayu, its disturbances and how to create balance using asana, pranayama and meditation.
Students will gain familiarity with the Chakra system, its relationship to the 3 communication systems in the body and how pranayama, asana, mantra and meditation may be used to balance each Chakra
