Yoga Philosophy 2.0: Doing Yoga Philosophy in 2019 - Empowered U
We're sorry, but all tickets sales have ended because the event is expired.

In this weekend course, Matthew will facilitate an exploration of the three core texts used in modern yoga culture: the Bhagavad Gita, the Yoga Sutras, and the Hatha Yoga Pradipika. Separated by over two millennia and vast changes in human perception, culture, resources, and aspirations these three books present a panorama of yogic concern and approach. Respectively, they address the biggest questions: “How must we live?” “Who am I inside?” and “What are we capable of?” We’ll learn the best practices for yoga philosophy today: historical sensitivity, cultural intelligence, an interdisciplinary technique, and the capacity to take pleasure in the uncertain journey towards wisdom. Presentations are interactive, supported by notes, enlivened by groupwork and discussion, and grounded with pranayama and simple embodiment techniques from restorative yoga.

Matthew Remski- Author: threads of yoga: a remix of patanjali’s yoga sutras, with commentary and reverie-www.matthew Remski.

I am a writer in the morning, therapist in the day, and teacher in the evening.I write about yoga, ayurveda, and evolution. I write poetry, novels, posts and fragments. As a therapist, I try to hold space for people as they illuminate and integrate the shadows of body and heart. I teach courses in ayurveda and yoga philosophy based upon the ongoing research of writing, and the ongoing experience of practical therapy. My approach is student-centered, example-focused, and Socratic. I teach asana as well, mostly in a therapeutic context.

The YTT format is particularly enjoyable for me, as it brings students who are at a strong transitional moment in life that allows them to consider substantial shifts in self-perception, self-care, and worldview. The ethos and poetry of Ayurveda tends to substantially complement and support their growth in physical and contemplative intelligence. My presentation style is interactive, and always leaves room for workshop-style digression into any pressing personal or group questions that arise in the moment.
