DBT Skills Group – Empowered U

Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) is an evidenced-based therapy created by Dr. Marsha Linehan in order to processes difficult emotions and improve problematic behaviors. While every human is truly doing their best, DBT provides guidance and skills so that each person has the tools to do better in specific situations. Problematic behaviors evolve as a way to cope with a situation, escape difficult emotions, or attempt to solve a problem. While these behaviors might provide temporary relief, they often are not effective and might have negative consequences in the long-term.

DBT Skills Training includes the following skills:

Mindfulness
Distress Tolerance
Interpersonal Effectiveness
Emotion Regulation

Homework is given at the end of each session to help clients practice the skills in their everyday lives.
